UKAS accredited calibration
laboratory · schedule FS11427
OTC was established in 1989 and is the UK specialist for fibre optic, light (lux, UV and luminance meters) and electronic calibration, holding UKAS accreditation for all three disciplines.
Associated knowledge in data and telecommunications, RF, electrical, solar, pressure and mechanical calibration means we can provide a one-stop shop for most customers. The laboratory is independent, and owned by its directors.

02 — The route
Five steps.
One unbroken chain.
An instrument leaves your site, is compared against a standard that is itself traceable, and comes back with a certificate. This is what happens in between.

01
Book
Tell us what the instrument is and where it is. Collection or drop-off, whichever suits.

02
Collect
We arrange the collection from your site, and the instrument travels to Listerhills Science Park.

03
Calibrate
It is compared against a working standard, itself checked against the reference standard at the top of our own chain.

04
Certify
Every reading is recorded with the standard it was compared against, and the uncertainty that surrounds it.

05
Return
The instrument comes back to you with its certificate, and a date for the next calibration.

03 — What you get back
One sheet of paper,
and everything behind it.
A calibration certificate is the part of the chain you can hold: what the instrument is, what it was compared against, what it read, and how far to trust the number.

Traceable through an unbroken chain of comparisons to the SI units.
-
01
Standard used
Named on the certificate, with the calibration that makes it traceable — so the chain is auditable, not assumed.
-
02
Results
What the instrument actually read against the standard, before and after any adjustment.
-
03
Uncertainty
Not a tolerance: the measured margin around the number, stated at k = 2.

Schedule reference
FS11427 — the UKAS schedule that sits behind the three accredited disciplines.
UKAS certificates are issued for the accredited disciplines. Elsewhere, in-house certificates use the same traceability chain — simpler paperwork, same chain.
04 — Disciplines
Eight disciplines.
Three on the schedule.
UKAS accreditation covers fibre optic, photometric and electronic calibration. The other five are part of the service — they are simply not on the accredited schedule.
| Number | Discipline | UKAS accredited |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Fibre optic | Accredited |
| 02 | Photometric | Accredited |
| 03 | Electronic | Accredited |
| 04 | RF | Outside the schedule |
| 05 | Electrical | Outside the schedule |
| 06 | Solar | Outside the schedule |
| 07 | Pressure | Outside the schedule |
| 08 | Mechanical | Outside the schedule |
Accreditation applies to the three disciplines marked ●. The rest of the laboratory's work is carried out outside that schedule.
